leather care
The careful and loving patience of our craftsmen creates a product that, with the right treatment, can accompany you throughout your life. Leather, as a living material, is subject to changes over time, becomes more and more supple and develops a characteristic patina. At Volet, we only use high-quality leather and allow all natural features such as scars, wrinkles, veins and pores to show through. These characteristics are not blemishes, but rather testament to the quality and durability of the leather.
Here are some important tips to keep in mind:
Protect the leather from adverse weather
It is important to be aware that leather is sensitive to all elements of nature, such as water, fat, heat, light, high humidity or dryness. To avoid damage, the leather should not be exposed to a strong light or heat source for a long time, such as direct sunlight, heating or the like, as this can lead to changes in color. If water does come into contact, the liquid should be wiped off immediately with a soft, lint-free cloth to avoid unsightly edges.
Avoid damage
Avoid damage that could irreversibly damage the leather. These include certain substances such as ink from pens, fountain pens and ballpoint pens, as well as products containing fat and alcohol such as make-up, lipstick and perfume. Especially light-colored leather could be affected if it is in contact with hard or dark textiles for too long.
To maintain the shape of your item, you should ensure that it is not subjected to excessive or improper loading. With the right care and attention to these instructions, you can help ensure that your leather product stays in the best condition and gives you long-lasting pleasure.
Give the leather a break
In order to preserve all its beauty, your Volet handbag needs a rest from time to time. When not being worn, it should be kept in the best possible conditions: protected from light, extreme temperatures and humidity and, if possible, in its original case or packaging. Filled with tissue paper or bubble wrap and with closed straps and clasps, it stays in shape. Desiccant bags are not recommended as they will dry out the leather.
